PSA Grading Cost — Every Tier

Prices are per card, not including shipping. Add $10–$28 each way for shipping, plus supplies. The all-in cost is always higher than the tier price alone.

The Real Cost

Hidden Fees Nobody Talks About

The tier price is only part of the story. Here's what a real 20-card Economy submission actually costs all-in.

Grading Fees
$999
20 cards × $49.99
Shipping (both ways)
$40
~$20 each direction
Supplies
$15
Card savers, shipping boxes
Total All-In
$1,054
$52.70 per card effective
The biggest hidden cost: The tier price assumes every card comes back PSA 10. They won't. If 30% of your cards grade PSA 7 or 8 — typical for modern chrome without pre-screening — those cards just cost you $50 in fees on cards that lost value compared to raw. A raw PSA 8 Bowman Chrome auto typically sells for less than ungraded. You paid $50 to grade it, waited 65 business days, and came out behind. Pre-grade every card before submitting.
The Math

Is PSA Grading Worth It? The ROI Formula

One rule: grading is only worth it if the PSA 10 premium exceeds your total all-in cost by enough to justify the capital lock-up and wait time.

Break-Even Formula
PSA 10 sale price
− Raw sale price
− All-in grading cost (~$75 in a 20-card batch)
= Your profit (or loss)
Example — Ethan Holliday Chrome Auto
Raw price: ~$90 (post-injury)
PSA 10 estimate: $400–$800
All-in Economy grading cost: ~$75 (part of a batch)
Break-even PSA 10 needed: $165
✓ Worth grading — PSA 10 upside far exceeds cost
PSA 10 Premium (avg)
3–8×
vs raw price on top prospects
Break-even on Economy
$75

Min Raw Value to Grade
$40

Economy Wait Time
65+
business days + 3–4 weeks intake
Decision Framework

What's Worth Grading — And What Isn't

✓ Grade These
First Bowman Chrome Autos of top prospects — PSA 10 premium is 3–8× raw. Holliday, Anthony, Caglianone all qualify at current prices.
Vintage cards ($100+ raw) — PSA authentication adds significant liquidity and premium on anything pre-1990.
Low-pop cards — If PSA 10 population is under 20 for your card, every slab adds to the scarcity narrative.
Cards with strong centering — 60/40 or better with clean corners. PSA 10 is realistic and the premium is real.
Pokémon sealed-era holos — Base Set, Jungle, Fossil era cards with PSA 10 premiums of 10–50× raw. Strongest grading ROI in the hobby.
✗ Don't Grade These
Cards worth under $40 raw — Economy grading costs ~$75 all-in. The math almost never works below $40.
Mass-produced modern base cards — High PSA 10 populations kill the premium. Check pop reports before submitting anything post-2015 in large runs.
Cards with visible print defects — A surface flaw barely visible raw will drop you to a 7 or 8 every time.
Off-center cards — Anything worse than 65/35 centering will grade PSA 7 or below. Never submit these.
Cards you need to sell quickly — Economy is 65+ business days minimum. You're locking capital for 4–6 months.
Step by Step

How to Submit to PSA in 2026

The process from raw card to slab. 30 minutes of work + 3–6 months of waiting.

01
Pre-grade your cards honestly
Under bright light, examine corners, edges, surface, and centering. Only submit cards where you genuinely believe a PSA 9 or 10 is likely. If in doubt, don't submit. A PSA 8 on a modern card is often worth less than raw.
02
Create your PSA account and choose your tier
Go to psacard.com/submissioncenter. For most collectors, Economy ($49.99) is the right call — or Value Bulk ($24.99) if you have 20+ cards and can wait 6+ months. Avoid Regular and above unless the card genuinely demands speed.
03
Fill out your submission form online
Log each card individually. Set your declared value conservatively — this is for insurance only. Print the form and include it with your submission.
04
Pack your cards correctly
Each card in a card saver (not a rigid top loader — PSA prefers card savers). Pack in bubble wrap. Ship via FedEx or USPS with tracking and insurance. Insure for the raw value of every card in the submission.
05
Track and wait
PSA's tracker: Received → Research & ID → Grading → Assembly → QC → Shipped. Economy typically shows movement at 8–10 weeks. Add 3–4 weeks intake. Realistic total wait: 4–6 months at Economy.
