Fernando Mendoza
Rookie Cards

The No. 1 overall pick is holding a clipboard behind 38-year-old Kirk Cousins — and that's exactly why his market is interesting. No highlights means no hype premium: his Topps NOW rookie trades near issue price while Topps just made him the face of Flagship Football (Aug 21). Depth charts change. Print runs don't.

⚠️ Early-market caveat. Mendoza's card universe is young: Topps NOW draft cards (print run 126,581, ~$7.26 raw — now below issue price) and the first licensed Topps NFL products now live: his Flagship RC #301 trades ~$4.56 raw. Comps are thin and formats are young; treat every number as early. As of Aug 31, 2026 (SportsCardsPro ungraded solds).

The Mendoza Market — At a Glance

A No. 1 pick QB with a mobility-limited veteran ahead of him and a card company that just made him its cover athlete. The hobby's oldest playbook says the cheap window is BEFORE the depth chart flips.

The Cards

What Exists Now vs What's Coming

The market is three tiers: the huge-print NOW cards trading near issue, the Flagship RCs arriving Aug 21, and the premium auto/patch tier that lands through the fall in Topps' first NFL products.

The Cousins Clock

This market has one variable that matters: WHEN does Mendoza start. A 38-year-old immobile veteran on a rebuilding roster is not a season-long wall — the league's own beat writers expect the flip. Every week of clipboard suppresses the price; the first start announcement historically repriced No. 1 QB markets in hours, not days. If you like the player, the discount IS the depth chart.

What to Skip

Treating the NOW card as an investment — 126,581 copies. It's a tracking instrument and a fun $11; scarcity math does not apply.
Paying start-announcement prices before the announcement — some asks already price the flip. The whole edge is buying the clipboard, not the headline.
Early autos with no comps — thin markets on brand-new formats produce outlier prints. If you can't comp it twice, you can't price it.
Forgetting the bust case — No. 1 QB busts are the hobby's most expensive lesson. Size it like a rookie QB bet, because it is one.

Follow the Drops

No fluff — just the comps, the story, and what the tape actually says.
