The Pikachu cards worth collecting

Pikachu has more cards than any Pokémon, which makes this desk harder, not easier. Most of them are promos and filler. These are the ones a collector actually wants: the three Base Set prints, the Wizards-era holos nobody kept clean, and the handful of modern Pikachu ex cards that carry their sets.

Shelf one · The grails

The grails

Wizards-era Pikachus. Cheap raw, because everyone had one; expensive in a 10, because nobody kept one clean.

The original

Base Set Pikachu #58 (1999)

The 1999 Pikachu, a common that every kid owned and almost nobody sleeved. Three prints — 1st Edition, Shadowless, Unlimited — with separate PSA labels and separate prices. The Unlimited raw is pocket money; the PSA 10 column is where this card becomes a collectible.

Jungle

Jungle Pikachu #60 (1999)

The second English Pikachu, from Jungle. Same story as Base Set: a few dollars raw, a serious PSA 10. The 1st Edition is the print collectors chase.

Neo

Neo Genesis Pikachu #70 (2000)

The Neo Genesis Pikachu, from the set with the worst print quality of the Wizards run — which is exactly why its 10s are worth what they are.

Last WOTC set

Skyridge Pikachu #84 (2003)

Pikachu from the final Wizards set, one print run, one of the heaviest cards in our Skyridge index. The most expensive vintage Pikachu on this desk raw, by a distance.

This year's chase

Pikachu ex, Ascended Heroes (2026)

The Special Illustration Rare #276 is the one of the heaviest cards in our Ascended Heroes index, up there with the Mega Gengar ex. The #277 is the same Pikachu ex in the other chase frame.

Surging Sparks

Pikachu ex, Surging Sparks (2024)

The Special Illustration Rare #238 is the heaviest card in our Surging Sparks index — a Pikachu set in name and in weight. The gold #247 and the #219 are the other chase frames; the regular #57 is on the starter shelf.

Galarian Gallery

Pikachu GG30 and #160, Crown Zenith (2023)

Two Crown Zenith Pikachus: the GG30 from the Galarian Gallery illustration subset and the #160 from the main set's top end. Both under $50 raw with a PSA 10 many times that.

Illustration rare

Pikachu #173, Scarlet & Violet 151 (2023)

The illustration-rare Pikachu from 151, one of the heavier cards in that index. One of the cards that made the 151 illustration rares a collecting lane of their own.

Celebrations promo

Pikachu V SWSH145, Celebrations (2021)

The Pikachu V promo from the 25th-anniversary Celebrations collection, one of the two heaviest cards in our Celebrations index. The SWSH143 is its sibling promo.

Anniversary

Pikachu ex #150, 30th Celebration (2026)

The 30th Celebration set has thirty Pikachu variants in it, and this is the ex at the top of them. The full lineup lives on our 30th Celebration page. Too new for graded marks that meet our rule.

Van Gogh Pikachu (2023)

The Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat promo from the Van Gogh Museum collaboration is the most-asked-about modern Pikachu and it has its own price page here: how much is the Van Gogh Pikachu worth. It is not in a set index, so it gets a link instead of a ladder on this desk.

Shelf three · The starter shelf

The starter shelf

Pikachus for under $10 raw — and one that shows what a $6 card can do in a 10.

The desk notes

How to collect Pikachu without getting burned

Commons are collectibles in a 10

A Base Set Pikachu was a common. That is why the raw column on the vintage shelf is pocket money and the PSA 10 column is not: almost none were kept clean, so a gem copy of a card everyone owned is rarer than the holo it sat behind in the binder. The grading premium on vintage commons is the biggest on this site.

Three Base Set Pikachus

1st Edition, Shadowless and Unlimited are three separate assets with separate PSA labels, separate population reports and separate price histories. Jungle and Neo Genesis split the same way into 1st Edition and Unlimited. Our indices track each print as its own card and every link here searches for the exact print on the row.

Promos are their own lane

The Celebrations promos and the Van Gogh Pikachu are not set cards, and most Pikachu promos do not have the sales depth to mark. The ones on this desk are the ones that do; the Van Gogh page carries the one that trades outside any set.

On grading

PSA 10 is the hobby's price reference. TAG grades by machine-measured imaging with human review and publishes a full defect report for every card, which is why we link TAG slabs beside PSA on every row. We think measured grading is where the hobby is heading — our view, not a price claim. How TAG grading works →

Where every number came from

Method

Raw is each card's sold mark in its own ShopCardHub set index: the median of its clean ungraded sold comps (PriceCharting completed sales) over the trailing 30 days, 90 days on the 1st Edition and Shadowless indices, re-marked Monday and Thursday — the same number as the index table and the card page. PSA 9, PSA 10 and TAG 10 are read from dated completed sales whose own listing title names that grade: the median of 3+ sales in 30 days, else 2+ in 90 days. Fewer than that is no mark; a single sale is shown as one dated sale, never as a price. A raw vintage copy can be in any condition, so a raw mark on a 1999 card is a typical raw sale, not a near-mint price. Marks on this page were read between Sep 30, 2026 and Oct 5, 2026. eBay links are searches for the exact print on each row, with our affiliate tag — live listings, never a price. Nothing on this desk is a call to buy or sell. How prices work →
